Matt is a partner specialising in corporate and commercial law, with a particular focus on the technology industry. Having practised in this sector since 2007, he brings a deep level of legal expertise and industry knowledge. He frequently advises start-ups and understands the particular challenges they face - often organisations undergoing rapid change, with a number of key priorities all needing to be addressed - growing revenues and brand recognition, product development and validation, securing supply and distribution channels, raising new capital, recruiting and retaining talent, and so on.
Why are you passionate about working with startup founders?
I enjoy supporting founders take new products and ideas to market - particularly products which disrupt established industries and/or are designed to deliver better ESG outcomes for our communities. I admire the passion, resilience and drive of founders. Supporting them through the inevitable ups and downs, and then hopefully seeing them hit major milestones is the most satisfying part of my job.
What experience do you have working with startup founders?
Extensive experience working with startups over approx 15 years. I commonly assist with structuring (including shareholders' or founders' agreements), capital raising, ESOPs, licensing and commercialisation, commercial contracts, privacy/data protection , and exits.
