Paul Muckleston manages a portfolio of Governance roles, is a Managing Director leading the global technology practice at the SellSide Group, a US based Mergers & Acquisition firm and is a Venture Partner at Pacific Channel, a New Zealand based deep tech Venture Capital fund.

Paul’s professional purpose is to help technology businesses scale globally.

Previously, Paul was the Chief Operating Officer for Microsoft’s world-wide Public Sector business. Paul enjoyed a successful and diverse career at Microsoft in various leadership roles based in New Zealand, France, Germany and most recently 6-years in the United States, travelling professionally to 70+ countries.

Paul is an investor, advisor and board member in various technology companies and VC funds in New Zealand and the USA along with being an active member of both the Seattle and New Zealand chapters of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO).

Paul’s governance roles include SaaS, HR Tech, AgriTech, Hitech manufacturing, Cyber Security and AI businesses. Paul is a judge for the 2024 NZ Hi-Tech Awards, a CEO mentor for the Marketing Academy’s APAC Fellowship Program and a mentor with the Ministry of Awesome’s startup accelerator program.

Paul’s a passionate, creative catalyst for change whose core values are health, family and accomplishment (in that order!).

Why are you passionate about working with startup founders?

In my new found life of a portfolio career, I'm working with businesses from very early stage through to exits. Founders are the most interesting, passionate and committed group of people you can work with who want to make a big impact, and are key to New Zealand's future prosperity. I get a lot of energy and creativity back, along with new ways of thinking from working with Founders.

What experience do you have working with startup founders?

I've invested in a number of start-ups, have worked with tech start-ups internationally with Microsoft, and in my current roles with Pacific Channel get to see many different deep tech start-ups pitching for investments. I've also very much enjoyed the last 2-years with MoA.
