EVENT RECAP: Coffee & Jam #224

Speaker One: Forbes Howie of The Anchorage

The Anchorage is the cafe or rather the home of Salior's Son, the coffee brand that sponsors Coffee & Jam. The café is located at 4 Walker Street, and has all day sun and everything inside has been handmade, and the team helped out with painting the furniture, so they can tell you the exact colour. They have amazing art, which is for sale and will be rotated every month. At The Anchorage, specialised coffee is served, which costs them $24 a kg, as they get it green. Similar to a chef, they aim for perfection by weighing the filter coffee. The filter coffee is not the weak, tasteless coffee which you find in American cafes or see in the movies, but is a 2017 version of it, and combined with the automated brewers, the Anchorage crew is able to aim for consistency in all of their special types of coffee. The Anchorage gets different filter coffee from all around the world every week, so you can experience a new part of the world every time. Besides the coffee that they serve, the café has a fun and energetic atmosphere, partially due to the fact of the Fuβball table and the dartboard and the diversity of the team. The team is able showcase the coffee all around town, and have done so at weddings, but also with more public events. Check out their Instagram to get inspired and ask Forbes, or any of the other knowledgeable staff, for awesome insights!

Speaker Two: Will Stewart Velocity5

Velocity5 is a YouTube channel of Will, in which he explains the basics of electric vehicle and their use. He also goes out and about to spread the word and knowledge about electric vehicles and their use. Electric vehicle may just be the perfect solution for the public transport network, as fossil fuels are running out and will become even more expensive. Besides this, the extraction of fossil fuels is very environmentally damaging, both for humans and the earth. There are a couple of advantages which electric cars offer, depending on the type. There are four type of cars ranging from ICE to BEV, and if you are looking to buy an electric vehicle, BEV would be the best but PHEV can be suitable too. Electric vehicles are affordable, low maintenance and available now! In the comparison made, you can save 2.500 dollars within 5 years, simply due to lower costs of ‘fuel’, as petrol is way more expensive than electricity. The difference on a 10 year basis is huge, meaning you can save almost 90% for expenditure on 'fuel'.  Will also tackled some myths for us, to illustrate that an EV does not create more damage to the planet and that there are enough charging stations and batteries are good enough to drive to your destinations. Thus, Save Money, Prevent Smog and Save the Planet!

Coffee & Jam is Christchurch's longest running weekly meet up for entrepreneurially-minded people. It’s a great place to see ordinary people doing extraordinary things, meet people, learn and share in a creative space, hear about other events in Christchurch and indulge in a little bit of free coffee, jam and bread.
