Coffee & Jam is Christchurch's longest running weekly meet up for entrepreneurial-minded people. It’s a great place to see ordinary people doing extraordinary things, be inspired, network, and share in an innovative space.

1. UCE Summer Startup Teams

  • Tom Maslin  - Ignition Rover


Tom Maslin is a fourth-year student at the University of Canterbury, studying a BE(Hons) in Mechatronics and a DipLang in German.  After private tutoring for 2 years, at the beginning of 2018, Tom founded and is now CEO of Ignition Tutoring, an education company by students for students addressing the negative stigmas around private tuition.  Ignition is now working to provide extracurricular programs for schools to help stimulate engagement and creation in education.

  • Sima Bagheri - Ora


Sima Bagheri, is the founder of a mobile platform for students to streamline access to
stress management resources and support. Whilst studying at the University of
Canterbury, Sima participated in challenges at the UC Centre for Entrepreneurship
which built her interest in being involved in business. This is her first major project which
she has been working on as part of their Summer Start-up Programme. Sima recently
graduated from UC with a first class honours degree in Chemical & Process Engineering
and will be working as an Environmental Engineer later this year.

2. Michael Sheehan - UN Sustainability Initiatives

Michael Sheehan is the head of CIOs Without Borders, a global not-for-profit organisation made up of more than 600 Chief Information Officers and others who volunteer for projects in the developing world which was established by the Asst. Secretary General at the UN. Michael also has a background which includes CIO roles in finance, healthcare and agritech. Michael will be talking about business and the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda  "Working Together Towards a Sustainable Future".
