Coffee and Jam #295 Shoutouts

Coffee & Jam is Christchurch's longest running weekly meet up for entrepreneurial-minded people. It’s a great place to see ordinary people doing extraordinary things, be inspired, network, and share in an innovative space.

This week's speakers are:

1) Melissa Baer - Radical Transparency in Agri

Since building businesses in Canada, Melissa has automated them to continue to run today. Specialising in the front end of the customer journey and its effects on the bottom line and delivery, Melissa is experienced in building businesses for sale or scale. With a background in high performance, Melissa brings rigour and hard questions to the forefront to get the best results. She has plenty of experience with businesses from tech, online retail, manufacturing and primary industry.

At this Coffee and Jam, Melissa will be discussing Radical Transparency - the pathway to sustainability for our food system

There is a lot of concern about our food supply, our food safety and our earth. How will we accomplish everything we need to? Melissa has spent over 20 years working on farms while building agriculture and food businesses. Her family farm was certified organic in 1987. This was the low tech version 1.0 of traceability.
She’ll share what she's learned along the way; why labels can be dangerous to both our health and our food supply, and the challenges of innovation in agriculture and how we can overcome them. Food is close to all of our hearts; she hopes you’ll leave with a fresh perspective and inspired about the future of food.

2) Florence Van Dyke - Chia Sister

Florence is one half of the Chia Sisters, a Nelson company making New Zealand's most nutritious beverages in a solar-powered juicery. Chia Sisters stock their superfood juices in over 700 cafes, grocers and supermarkets nationwide as well as in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Australia. Florence is a lawyer by training, previously working with one of New Zealand’s leading corporate law firms and for the United Nation on the Khmer Rouge Trials in Cambodia. She is also a New Zealand representative triathlete. Florence will be talking about her story and the importance of turning business challenges into opportunities.

After years of researching the world's most prized superfoods, and testing in the high altitudes of the Himalayas, the Chia Sisters' dream was born: a range of drinks containing the richest plant source of essential nutrients on the planet. Recently, they made Asia's 30 under 30 list by Forbes.
