About You:

As our Head of Marketing & Community, your task is to build the Ministry of Awesome (MoA) brand as synonymous with world-leading high-growth startup ecosystem success. This new leadership role is a fantastic opportunity to build a career in the startup and innovation sector with a national profile and global development opportunity.

As Head of Marketing and Community you will lead a team of staff and contractors to tell a compelling story of impact and outcomes from our national incubator, accelerator, and entrepreneur development programmes. You will ensure that key stakeholders within our partners, strategic allies, and the greater community have a clear and consistent communication about the work MoA is doing to build high-growth startups with global ambition.

You are an outstanding marketing and communications leader with a demonstrated history of creating compelling brands and executing successful marketing campaigns that have grown engaged communities. You excel in identifying and nurturing opportunities with national media and industry partners to build reach, influence, and a following.

You are adept and comfortable in a small team within a fast moving environment where you are happy to be a sometime soldier and general depending on the task at hand, resources available, and timeline.

You understand the central importance of the customer and construct your strategies, tactics, and campaigns to engage with them and build long lasting influence and relationships. You are adept at leveraging stakeholder relationships to create marketing opportunities that multiply and amplify impact.

You embrace the power and impact of both traditional and digital channels and are creative in your campaign planning approach to maximise awareness, engagement, and conversion.

You have a firm grasp on what it takes to build an active community of entrepreneurs, investors, and supporters and are able to plan and implement a strategy that builds on our startup and innovation community to be second-to-none in New Zealand.

You are a dynamic and proactive leader who strives for excellence and is passionate about your work. You will lead and inspire a team of marketing, event, and community specialists. You are an excellent communicator with strong people skills allowing you to form trusting and solid relationships with startup founders, your fellow team members, and MoA’s many local, national and international partners.

Most importantly, you are deeply passionate about the potential for Kiwi high growth startup founders to transform NZ’s economy and provide sustainable value for people and planet.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of marketing experience with a demonstrated history of success in brand development and marketing campaign execution
  • Experience and enjoyment of leading a small team and a passion for developing talent to their full potential
  • A solid and demonstrated understanding of how to build engaged communities in real life and virtually
  • Deep experience of digital marketing, campaign measurement and optimisation, and marketing automation
  • Excellent spoken and written communication and relationship building skill
  • A strong team and collaborative mentality with a definite growth mindset
  • A passion for the startup environment and what it represents for New Zealand’s future
