PreventS-MD emerged from an extensive research foundation, originally conceptualised by Professor Valery Feigin 11 years ago. What began as a mobile app for research purposes has evolved into a comprehensive software solution that generates tailored recommendations, guides and supports health behaviour changes.
"Our software integrates directly into doctors' systems," Bala explains. "It enables us to predict potential health risks for patients using their existing medical records alongside the latest research." "The software takes a unique approach by not only identifying health risks but also prioritising them. For example, if a patient is obese, smokes, and consumes alcohol, the system pinpoints the most critical factor requiring immediate intervention."
Turning Research into Reality
In just over a year, PreventS-MD has already generated significant revenue without external investors. The startup has developed sophisticated software that goes beyond the original research app, looking at a wide range of diseases and providing personalised recommendations.
A key innovation is the software's holistic approach. "We foster a commitment between the patient and the clinician to prioritise health," Dr. Nair explains. "This approach focuses not only on treating diseases but also on preventing them through small, consistent lifestyle changes."
From Lab Coat to Leadership
Coming from a scientific background, Bala recognised the need to develop broader business skills. He sought entrepreneurship training, finding support through the Ministry of Awesome's Founder Catalyst programme. "Coming from a science background, I initially had limited knowledge of business," Bala admits. "As a CEO, however, it’s essential to have a well-rounded understanding of all aspects of the company."
Founder Catalyst provided crucial insights into marketing, finance, and business strategy. Mentors helped him refine his approach, teaching him to condense ideas and think strategically.
